Welcome to Mrs. Reiner's art room!
My name is Mrs. Reiner and I have been teaching Art at Cole for 13 years. Outside of teaching I am a watercolor painter and the mom of children.
My philosophy has always been to make the art room an enjoyable place to be, where all students can succeed regardless of their individual talents. The art room should be a place where students can express themselves in a creative way while learning the necessary skills and techniques to do so. I hope that all students will be truly challenged in my class, and at the same time, grow to love and appreciate art.
Class Descriptions:
Grade 6: This is an exploratory art class where students are encouraged to be creative and develop original ideas on a daily basis. We will learn about and discover new materials, skills, and processes in drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics. In addition, we will learn about several famous artists and be inspired by their work. The majority of work is done in class and students will complete projects that last 2-3 weeks.
Grade 7: This is a full year class for students who do not take a foreign language. We will be exploring a variety of media and concepts with greater depth and focus. Projects normally last 2-4 weeks with most work being completed in class. Students are responsible for keeping a portfolio and an art sketchbook that they will be working in class at various times. In 7th grade art, we usually complete 4-6 major projects per quarter in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Students will also be reading about several major artists and art movements and writing about their own artwork and the work of others. This art class is a great opportunity for students to express their creative ideas!
Grade 8: This semester long class (often called Sculpture) is available to all students. Students will be pushing their creativity and originality to new heights and learning a variety of new skills and techniques in this class. We will explore drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture with great depth and focus. Two-dimensional art concepts are introduced and students will explore ceramics and sculpture (three-dimensional concepts) a bit more in this class. Students will also read about major artists and art movements and often write about them in class. Students are encouraged to develop a personal style and will be keeping a portfolio of their work as well as an art sketchbook.
